About PRAN

Participatory Research And Action Network as PRAN is non-profit making, self-governed and legatee social development organisation established in 1998-1999. Our motto is to undertake welfare activities for betterment of the society.

Background:

By observing the extreme poverty driven condition of the dwelling communities at the outskirts of Garia municipal area under 24 Pgs (S), submerged in the darkness of illiteracy, addiction and racism. A young group of MSW students decided to stand beside the community by channelizing their professional skills and social entrepreneurship into humanitarian activity which ultimately laid the foundation of the organization.

It was 1998-99 Garia and its neighbouring areas [mainly in slums] sunk deep into the darkness of illiteracy and ignorance, poverty and exploitation, deprivation, superstition. At that time a group of Master of Social Work students was visited that area and dreamt of better slum life free from all social and urban problems. By their progressive thoughts the professional youth united themselves and come forward to form Participatory Research And Action Network [PRAN], was registered in 1999.

Goal: Following are the fundamental goals of the organisation
  • Community empowerment, improvement in life standard and bring gradual social change by facilitating for income generation, sensitisation and formation of rural community, especially of women and destitute.
  • Inspire the community for humane, financial and physical independence and self-reliance by providing complementary support for initiatives that are begun in local level by increasing the capacity of community to identify and mobilise the local resources (human, financial and physical).
  • Carry out the functions by making the organisation self-reliant in terms of resources emphasising on the motto ''social service is an alternate profession'' to develop skilled human resources and professional members towards social service and organisation, by conducting various entrepreneurships and programmes and identifying viable resources for sustainable development of the organisation.
